What is body and soul?

Body & Soul is all about helping people to get stronger in mind, body and soul.

We run high-quality, church-based exercise classes to help improve your physical, mental and spiritual health.

Train with a qualified Body & Soul Coach, reach your fitness goals, build community with others, and strengthen your body and soul.

How much do the classes cost?

Our aim is to run high quality exercise classes which are affordable and accessible.

Our classes run on a PAY WHAT YOU CAN basis - with no joining fees or contacts.

We suggest £10 per class, but if you cannot afford this, you can pay what you can between £1-£10 per class.

There are a number of ways you can pay for a class:

  • You can pay when you book a class (recommended).

  • You can pay or make a donation online by clicking HERE.

  • Or you can pay by using our giving machine in the foyer upon arrival.

How do I join a class?

We prefer people to sign up to a class before attending. You can book into any class by clicking onto the name of the class you’d like to attend at the bottom of this page.

At Body & Soul our classes are designed to help you improve your overall strength and cardiovascular system - so we offer a mixture of strength classes and cross training. If you are new, try and arrive 10-15 minutes before the start time to discuss any important medical information for safe exercise.

  • The first time you sign up you will need to complete a CONSENT FORM and PAR-Q (physical readiness questionnaire) before you take part in a class. This will be automatically sent to your email when you book a class. These must be completed before you can take part.

  • The classes are at Christ Church Surbiton Hill (8 Christ Church Road, Surbiton, KT5 8JJ) and you can enter through the main entrance.

  • Unlike gym memberships, you don’t need to commit to a monthly or annual contract, at Body & Soul you can simply come when you can.

  • Bring with you a water bottle and wear clothes that you can move freely in (unfortunately we don’t have any showers on site).

who leads the classes?

All our classes are led by Charles Kimbangi.

Charles is a CIMSPA accredited Level 3 Personal Trainer and Gym Instructor, as well as a member of the staff team at Christ Church Surbiton Hill.

If you have any questions, or would like to know more, please feel free to email charles.kimbangi@ccsurbiton.org

Exercise Class Timetable

All classes are inclusive, body positive, and we welcome people from all faiths or none.

We offer a range of classes to cater for different abilities and fitness levels; and within each class you will be given variations of each exercise to meet your needs. To get an idea of the intensity of each class look for the number of dumbbells:

1 dumbbell = low intensity (chair exercises/body weight/ resistant bands) - gentle strength exercises, ideal for seniors, those recovering from injury or those new to strength and conditioning.

2 dumbbells = moderate intensity (range of weights and exercises, may include cardio for Cross Training).

3 dumbbells = high intensity (include a combination of cardio and strength training - between moderate to intense training).

Each class will conclude with a brief, informal and unpressured moment of positive reflection to help improve our spiritual health.

Please note that classes will start during the week beginning Monday 11th May.
